Multiple Criteria Approach

Information shall be gathered in each of the four categories.
At least one of the criteria must be met by a score on a nationally normed test.
Any data used to establish eligibility in one area shall not be used to establish eligibility in another area.
Any test score used to establish eligibility shall be current within two years.
Private testing will not be considered for eligibility

Motivation

>96th percentile by age on a composite full scale score of a standardized mental ability test.

>90th percentile by grade on one of the following:
Total Reading OR
Total Math OR
Composite Score of a standardized achievement test.

>90th percentile total composite score by grade on a standardized test of creative thinking.
OR
A score of >90 on a scale of 1-100 on a structured observation/evaluation of creative products or performances evaluated by a panel of three of more qualified evaluators.
OR
A score of >90 on a standardized motivational characteristics rating scale

GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in grades 5-12 for the two previous school years
OR
A score of >90 on a standardized motivational characteristics rating scale

If a child scores within in one standard error of measure (SEM) on a standardized mental ability test, he/she will be given a second test from the above list.
*Only one rating scale may be used for eligibility. Rating scales may be used for data collection only - in two areas.



 

 

INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

Students qualify through a multiple-criteria assessment process by meeting criteria in any three of the four areas listed above.

Psychometric Approach
Placement occurs when a student scores at the 99th percentile (grades K-2) or the 96th percentile (grades 3-12) on the composite or full scale score of a standardized mental ability test and meet one of the achievement criteria described above. Data must be collected in the creative and motivation categories but with no minimum scores.
