STEM at Eton Elementary

The Georgia Department of Education is dedicated to preparing students for 21st Century workplace careers by providing high quality educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. In Georgia, STEM education is an integrated curriculum (as opposed to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics taught in isolation) that is driven by problem solving, discovery, exploratory project/problem-based learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions. The saturation of technology in most fields means that all students – not just those who plan to pursue a STEM profession – will require a solid foundation in STEM to be productive members of the workforce.

We are excited to bring STEM based learning to Eton Elementary.  Each grade level will be doing something that aligns itself to the STEM concept. Kindergarten and first grade will be going to the computer lab to learn about coding. Other grades will be doing short term and long term projects such as rain gauges, stream tables, recycling, building water filters, building rain gauges, and many more projects. The possibilities are endless. Students will be the ones who are making the decisions, problem solving, and creating solutions. It will be hands-on learning that will help all students learn and become actively engaged.
